RESOLUTION [Concerning Morton A. Paradise]

WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise has been living an extraordinary life for seventy years, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise celebrates life each day with his wife of forty-three years, Pepi, and his children, Cheryl, Gale and Jeffrey, and many other relatives and friends, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise was raised on Chicago's West side and attended public school until the start of the Korean War. Mr. Paradise enlisted in the Army, and continued to serve in the Army Reserve as a Sergeant First Class after being discharged from active duty. After leaving the Army Reserve Mr. Paradise joined the Coast Guard Reserve as a Chief Petty Officer. He retired from military duty in 1966 after over 18 years of service to his country, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise dedicated his time to providing leadership to young boys in West Rogers Park by becoming an Assistant Scout Master for his son's Cub and Boy Scout troops. He also heartily supported his daughters' fundraising efforts for their Brownie and Girl Scout troops, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise is a man of deep religious faith. He is currently a member of Congregation Ezras Israel and is a longstanding member of B'nai B'rith. In addition, Mr. Paradise continues to support the Jewish United Federation and its many outreach programs, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise remains true to his democratic ideals, having been involved in numerous political campaigns on the city, state, and national level. He was a Precinct Captain in the 50th Ward and now serves as an Election Judge, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise was a Deputy Sheriff for seventeen years for the Cook County Sheriff's Office. He maintains his membership in the Shomrim Society, an organization of Jewish law enforcement professionals, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of his birth on April 21, 2001 among loving family and friends, and
WHEREAS, Morton Arnold Paradise will be honored on April 20, 2001 as the 6600 block street of North Fairfield is renamed "Morton A. Paradise Way", and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Cook County does hereby join with the family and many friends of Morton Arnold Paradise in celebrating his birthday, the renaming of his honorary street, and his exemplary life, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the official proceedings of this Honorable Body and a suitable copy be tendered to Morton Arnold Paradise and his family as testimony to his wonderful life.
